Javier García
Javier A. Garcia is a native of Brownsville, Texas. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Texas in 1987, he earned a Master of Education Degree in Counseling from Southwest Texas State University in 1992, and he earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center in 1999. He has over 28 years experience in the United States District Courts where he worked with complex criminal law matters. He now brings his experience and passion for immigration law to The Rushton Law Firm.
Mr. Garcia is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Immigration Lawyers Association and has been admitted for practice in the United States District and Bankruptcy Courts for the Southern District of Texas. Mr. Garcia believes in providing the best service to those in need of a careful navigation through the complex and ever-changing immigration law. He believes competent and thoughtful representation in court, and all matters before the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service, is a critical service which all clients deserve.
He remains an advocate for immigrants who have come to the United States seeking legal immigration status and protection under the immigration laws of the United States, so that they may experience their own version of the “American Dream.” Mr. Garcia is fluent in Spanish.
Robert K. Hoffman
Attorney Robert K. Hoffman is a Houston-native born of immigrant parents from Costa Rica and is fluent in English and Spanish. He attended Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri and graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of the Arts in International Studies and Political Science with a minor in United States History. Upon his graduation, he traveled to Washington, DC and worked on the 2004 Presidential Campaign. Following the elections, Mr. Hoffman returned to Houston and enrolled at South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas from where he graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 2009.
Mr. Hoffman gained prior experience in immigration law working at Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston., where he assisted Unaccompanied Minors, Refugees, Victims of Domestic Violence, Victims of Human Trafficking, and applicants for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, among others. Additionally, he has been admitted to practice in the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals and the District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Thanks to his exceptional work, he has received the 2017 American Institute of Legal Counsel–10 Best Immigration Attorneys – “Exceptional and Outstanding Client Service” Award; the 2018 Attorney & Practice Magazine–Top 10 Immigration Attorney recognition, and 2018 Lawyers of Distinctions–Excellence in Immigration Law Award. Mr. Hoffman is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Hispanic Bar Association of Houston.
Mr. Hoffman has given numerous presentations on the immigration law to lay people, law enforcement and lawyers including United Way’s Inter-agency Meeting, Fort Bend Connect and the Crime Victim Response Team Fall Conference. He belongs to the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the Houston Young Lawyers Association.
Mr. Hoffman has previously participated in “Inmigración al Día,” a segment of Univision Noticias in which viewers ask questions on the immigration law; he has also been a guest at the radio show “Mitos y Realidades” aired on Radio Alegría 1240AM-120.3FM, Bryan.
Mr. Hoffman joined the Rushton Law Firm in 2014 as an Associate Attorney. He lives with his wife and two daughters in Katy, Texas.
Lawrence E. Rushton
Attorney Lawrence E. Rushton graduated with degrees in history and international studies from Texas A&M University. He received his doctorate of jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center. Before becoming a lawyer, he was Coordinator of International Business for the Greater Houston Partnership, the chamber of commerce for the city of Houston.
Mr. Rushton practices immigration law and was named a “2006 Top Professional on the Fast Track” by H. Texas Magazine, and was previously named a “Texas Rising Star for 2005,” as one of the outstanding young lawyers in Texas. He represents clients in court proceedings (Immigration Courts, Federal District Courts and the Federal Courts of Appeals) and before the immigration service. Mr. Rushton has spoken before community groups, such as La Rosa Family Services and KPFT Radio, and professional organizations such as the American Immigration Lawyer’s Association and University of Texas Continuing Legal Education Conferences.
Mr. Rushton participates in the radio Show "Mitos y Realidades" aired on Radio Alegría 1240 AM-120.3 FM, Bryan. Every other Saturday, the attorney talks about current immigration issues and helps people navigate the immigration system in this country. In addition to the show, he also responds to people's concerns in his monthly Facebook lives and share some legal guidances in the daily spots "Un Minuto de inmigración," also aired on Radio Alegría.
He has lived and traveled in many Latin American countries where he studied the politics, history and culture of the region. He speaks English and Spanish.
